Tamika Fordham
Congratulations to Mrs. Tamika Fordham for being named Calhoun County Schools' 2016-17 District Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Fordham is a 4th grade teacher here at SMK8.  Her teaching philosophy is that all students can learn when they are accepted for who they are and where they are in their educational journey. Mrs. Fordham's teaching style is best described as one that incorporates a diversity of teaching techniques that are fun, energetic, and fair. She is very dedicated to education with a passion for inspiring students to have fun while learning and to always do their best!  Mrs. Fordham served in the United States Army Reserve throughout her college years, has a Masters in Early Childhood, an Education Specialist Degree in Principals and Leadership, and is Nationally Board Certified! We are so proud of you Mrs. Fordham and know you will do a great job representing us as Calhoun County's District Teacher of the Year!

St. Matthews K-8
Family Literacy Festival

The SMK8 First Annual Literacy Festival was held on Thursday, October 20th from 5:30 to 7:30. The purpose of the event was to promote literacy, build family-school connections, and to build community support with local churches, businesses, community organizations, and classroom teachers. The Family Literacy Festival provided many opportunities for children and families to engage in activities that promoted reading, writing, and rich literacy learning experiences. The event communicated the important message of “Families That Read Together, Succeed Together"! We would like to thank our literacy coach, Dr. Wanda Green-Adams, our teachers, and community members who worked hard to make this literacy event such a success for our students and families at SMK8!
